IT INITIATIVES
The Information Technology (IT) initiatives and promoting of e-Governance activities was begun in the District Administration is from the inception of National Informatics Centre (NIC), collectorate, Coimbatore, started functioning from September 1988. During the Initial stage the foremost responsibility of this NIC centre was to create and spread of Informatics culture among the District officials of the District administration and in over all Computerisation of different administrative processes and procedures so that information for decision making is readily available at levels.

Some of the Government Departments/Sections which are computerised their daily activities are,
• District Revenue Department
• District Rural Development Agency (DRDA)
• Treasury Department
• Registration Department
• Transport Department
• Civil Supplies Department
• Municipal and Town Panchayat Department
• Health and Family Welfare Department
• Agricultural and Regulated Markets
• District Social welfare Department
• District Passport Cell
• District Court

Systems for Taluk Offices 

• Computerization of Land Records (Tamil NILAM)
• Computerised Money Order Printing of Old Age Pension Scheme
• Certificate Monitoring System
• Payroll and Electronic Clearance System (ECS)
• Touch Screen Kiosk System Installed at Pollachi Taluk office for public usage
    
Training


• Basic and  advanced  level  Computer training  given for Revenue, Panchayat Devlopment, Treasury, Registration, Agriculture, Health, Regulated Markets and Transport Department staffs

The Coimbatore Collectorate is equipped with the following facilities :

1. Windows 2003 and Linux Servers
2. Windows 2000 Professional and Windows XP  Client Systems
3. Remote Access Server for  Email and Internet
4. LAN Terminal Server
5. Leased line connectivity  and  Video Conferencing Facility
